David's Scrapbook
Mass Effect
Just a quick note, but thanks to Kabitzin for recommending Bioware's Mass Effect -- it's an excellent game, with wonderful graphics and fairly intuitive controls. The story is quite decent, but as with most sci-fi games, it is just *saturated* with pathos -- as a case in point, here's the backstory at the beginning of the game: "You were raised on Mindoir on the fringes of the Attican Traverse. When you were sixteen, the colony was raided by slavers.... 0% 0% Zadnji zapisi v blogu "David's Scrapbook"
0% 0% New Car Ho ho ho! Just bought a Ford Mustang and it is *wicked* -- all silver and chrome and black leather! Made of what dreams are made of! Also had a lovely summer at Northwestern University and scored very well on medicine board examinations (maxed out two-digit score at 99).... 29% 71% Zaščiteno: Kako lahko nekdo izjavi, da... Izvlečka ni, ker je ta objava zaščitena. 0% 0% Summer Update Just a quick note, but huge thanks to L. for her recommendation of the drama series Nodame Cantible -- it is just *ridiculously* good. If you enjoy classical music, Rocky-esque training scenes, and angst, this might just be up your alley.... 80% 20% Pozdravljeni levi, desni, bogati in revn... Bodite potrpežljivi vse je tako, kot mora biti. Tudi moje objave se bodo pojavile takrat, ko bo za to pravi čas. 0% 0% M2 Finals Finished Huzzah -- just finished final exams for the second year of med school! These last few weeks have been full of non-stop studying, so it's great to see everything slam to a stop.... 0% 0% M2 Danville Posse Just a quick update, but here's my group from tutorials at the Danville V.A. Hospital! One of the reasons that I like med school at UIUC so much is that one is surrounded by people who are smart, friendly, and supportive. The photo above has Meredith, Dan, Victor, and Katherine -- all who are MD/PhD all-stars! ... 0% 0% Hazmat Suits Our hospital recently had a academic conference on bioterrorism, so got a chance to listen to some cool lectures on avian flu, snag free swag, and check out protective gear -- below is a picture of some upperclassmen in NBC gear: ... 0% 0% Going Purple Woo -- good news! I just got accepted into a summer medical clerkship at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine! I'm rather proud of this achievement, since the merit-based clerkship competition was quite tough, but now that the acceptance letter is in hand, I'm just wicked happy.... 0% 0% Staying Alive Ho ho ho! There was another snowstorm in Urbana during the past week, so got together with some friends to go sledding and make a snowman -- certainly a lovely break from all that studying. One of the hardest things about med school is staying sane, so I'm really thankful for people that care & keep me stable! ... 0% 0% Cold Just had a snowstorm in Urbana, so spent time setting up beds in the hospital so that people without homes could have a place to stay overnight -- it was really cool to talk with the people coming in and help out with getting adequate food / water (warm fuzzy feelings!) ... 0% 0% Marathon in the ER Argh, had to stay overnight yesterday at the hospital while shadowing. Usually I'll bring a medical journal or some USMLE questions to pass the time, but this time, I came with a PDA stocked with twenty-odd episodes of Naruto -- which I dare say, is one of the most enjoyable anime titles to marathon.... 0% 0% White Coat Ceremony Ha, just got pictures back from the white coat ceremony! At UIUC, the white coat ceremony is held right after medical students move away from classroom stuff (i.e. learning pharmacology, pathology) and into the hospital (i.e. interacting with patients).... 0% 0% Physical Exam Done Phew, just a quick note, but just finished the final exam for the 'History & Physical Diagnosis' course for second-year med students.... 0% 0% India Recap Whoa, delayed update -- in December, had a wonderful time shadowing in my mentor's cleft-lip surgery clinic, celebrating my big sister's wedding (above), and seeing ornate palaces: It's good to be back in med school and start studying again, but geez, I wish the weather in Urbana could be just a little more like the weather in India: ... 0% 0% On Willpower Geez, spent the whole weekend studying leukemias and lymphomas -- finals are coming up in a week, so although I can recognize Burkitt's at a glance, my grammar and creative juices are shot. Anyway, just wanted to share a poem that's hanging on a wall in my mentor's office. I thought it was pretty cool, so just thought I'd share it along: ... 0% 0% Post-Thanksgiving Recap Woo for Thanksgiving! One of my favorite things about being home in Chicago is just sitting back . . . and relaxing.... 0% 0% Booking Just finished a major pharmacology test today and getting ready to head to Chicago to celebrate Thanksgiving with family (woo!).... |
